This is the success mantra of West Zone FOGSI Vice President Dr. Sunita Tandulwadkar, who left us spellbound with her masterstroke conference – The FOGSI CNN 2017. The conference was held at the J W Marriot Pune from 23rd – 25th June 2017, under the aegis of Pune Obstetrics and Gynecology. There was unconditional support from FOGSI president Dr. Rishma Pai and POGS president Dr. Nishikant Shrotri. The organizing chairpersons were Dr. Parag Biniwale, Dr. Girija Wagh, Dr. Nandita Palshetkar and Dr. ShanthaKumari, and they left no stone unturned to make the conference a phenomenal success.
Aptly called the ‘FOGSI-CNN’, the conference deliberation was on the following themes

N – Newer evidences in Obstetrics & Gynecology
23rd June 2017 witnessed interesting pre-congress workshops –Infertility, Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Medicolegal workshop, Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy & hyperglycemia and labour workshop. There was a live relay of vaginal surgeries, which started from basics and went upto detailing of complicated cases.
There were 3 parallel sessions on 24th and 25th June – the main conference days. The power packed halls till late evenings, spoke high about the rich academic content of the scientific programme and the enthusiasm of the delegates alike.
Association with more than 18 FOGSI Committees, crisp dedicated hard-core academics, unparalleled cultural evenings and a food fiesta –CNN had it all. With more than 1000 delegates from across the country, the handpicked star faculty did a job par excellence. The quest for knowledge, and curiosity for advances in the field was palpable. Sessions were more interactive than didactic, there were round tables, panels to start and end the day with – making interaction vital.
A FOGSI CNN mobile app, which has all the lectures uploaded as ready reckoner, was a highlight.
Highlight of the conference was 20 Lacs given to FOGSI

It was a Exclusive Gynecocologic Surgery Workshop with theme of “Redefining and revisiting Gynecologic Surgery” which included MIS (Minimally Invasive surgery), and pure vaginal surgeries covering various surgeries under one umbrella: Urogynecology & Pelvic floor repairs, Oncogynecology: Schauta’s , Non descent vaginal hysterectomy for fibroids, Fertility enhancing surgeries etc.
These all operations were relayed Live From 4 theatres working simultaneously, with crystal clear Audio-visual to the auditorium.
International faculty were Dr Andri, Dr Daniel D’mello,and Dr Greg Kariyo.
National faculties were Dr Prakash Trivedi, Dr PG Paul, Dr PC Mohapatra, Dr Praveen Patel, Dr V P Paily and Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar.
Over 600 delegates enjoyed this fiest of operative workshop as well as presentations of eminent surgeons flooded with redefined knowledge.
With able guidance of Dr. Sunita Tandulwadkar and her experience of megasuccess of 3 previous Innternational conferences, this conference stood way beyond the expectations.

Andrology/ IUI Hands-on training workshop:
This was a full day workshop organized at Ruby Hall Clinic comprised of 3 International Faculty and 6 national faculties.
The workshop aimed at better understanding of the sperms and thereby aiding in selection of better treatment modality for male factor infertility couples. The workshop also aimed at helping the delegates fine-tune their skills to achieve better success rate following IUI. The hands-on training in sperm processing techniques followed the lecture series. This training aimed at practical demonstration & training of the delegates to improvise the quality & quantity of sperms to be instilled during the IUI technique.Sperm morphology test be Dr Daniel was quiet interesting for all.
This half-day workshop was organized at the Gupte Hospital &Center for Research in Reproduction in the pre-lunch session .The workshop was well attended and the tips given by Dr Nozer Sheriar and Dr Shyam Desai were appreciated by all.
The Hysteroscopy workshop was followed by the Laparoscopy workshop at Armed Forces Medical College (A.F.M.C.).There was live demonstration of cases ( myomectomy, tubo-tubal anastomosis, adnexal masses) from two operation thetres.

ISAR-IFFS workshop: “Trouble shooting in ART: Clinician’s Perspective”
This workshop was held at Le Meridian and proved to be a day long fiesta of scientific deliberations and practical video discussions wherein prominent International faculty viz. Prof Tugas Tulandi, Dr Ian Cooke, Prof Gab Covacs, Dr Pun Ting Chung along with eminent National faculty including Dr. Sadhana Desai (President ISAR 2008-2010) shared their vast experiences with the Gynecologists.
Embryology workshop: Cutting Edge Technologies For ART
The workshop was designed for the Embryologists aspiring to learn the latest technologies in the field.
Myriad of experts were segregated between the IVF laboratory and the auditorium. The International Faculty namely Dr Regina Klose, Dr Daniel Franken, Dr Ashok Agarwal, Dr Enver Dirican along with esteem National Faculty worked in complete co-ordination under the leadership of the workshop Conveners- Dr Vijay Mangoli and Mrs Sonal Vaidya.
The workshop was a fine blend of theoretical information followed by practical LIVE DEMONSTRATION of ICSI, Laser Assisted Hatching & sperm immobilization using laser system as well as real time visualization of meiotic spindle to assess oocyte maturity. The workshop also witness the FIRST TIME EVER IN INDIA LIVE DEMONSTRATION OF IMSI (Intra-cytoplasmic Morphologically selected Sperm Injection) at the magnification of 7,200 X.
This was followed by Live demonstration of CASA (Computer Aided Sperm Analysis)
The workshop was totally focused on improvising ICSI results using digital image enhancement of egg and sperm.
A full day workshop was organized at the Gupte Hospital & Center for Research in Reproduction.
This workshop was designed for the sonologists and infertility specialists and aimed at better understanding of importance of ultrasound in infertility.
With a two day exhaustive schedule of interesting practical discussions and live demonstrations followed the Main Congress, organized at the Le Meridian.
The sessions scheduled for 2 days of the Congress included the various aspects of infertility in depth. The two halls ere designed in such a manner that hall A was catering to the ART Consultants and Hall B was of interest to gynecologists practicing upto IUI level. There was 100% attendance even in Hall B. The debates, panel discussions, symposiums, guest lectures and the time allotted after each talk for question- answer encouraged the delegates to interact freely with the Faculty.
The Merck- Serona Oration on 31st January was by Prof. Togas Tulandi on ‘Changing concepts in fertility management’ and the ISAR oration was held on 1st February by Prof. Gab Covacs on ‘Ovulation stimulation in IVF’.
The esteemed Faculty ensured that the delegates received the latest update on the topic along with valuable carry home messages.
The Inauguration was a grand event. The Chief Guest was Dr C N Purandare and the Guest of Honour was Dr R P Soonawala. The honourable Health Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Rajesh tope, could not attend the ceremony because of demise of Dr Venkatraman. The felicitation of International Faculty with Puneri Pagadi and traditional stole was enjoyed by all. The graceful dance by Miss Maithili Bokil, daughter of our own team member was a point of attraction.
A lucky draw of the delegates attending the Embryology workshop was also announced and the winner received a Free ART training in Germany.
ISAR 2009 hosted grand evenings to one & all on all 3 days of the Congress.
On the 29th January 2009, the delegates and Faculty had a fun filled time with the comedian Dr Tushar Shah creating a very jovial mood at the Poona Club.
The Banquet was arranged on the 30th January 2009 at the Pancard Club. It proved to be a vibrant evening with spectacular dance performances & visuals by Subhash Dang, choreographer of International fame and YTA troupe.
On the 31st January 2009, everybody gathered at the Area 51 of Pancard Club, which is Asia’s largest discotheque. Needless to say, everyone shed off their inhibitions and spent a gala evening. The entry of ISAR President, Dr Sadhana Desai in Area 51 was the glory of attraction.
The scientific exhibition was organized and for the first time, a virtual ART lab was set-up in the midst of it. All the traders were happy with the response.
Because of the over-enthusiasm, the Free Paper timing was extended while the posters were exhibited in the scientific exhibition area. Each of the participants was presented with the gold plated silver medal and the 3 best papers and posters were awarded a silver plaque.
The most coveted & prestigious 14th National Congress on Assisted Reproductive Technology & Advances in Infertility Management was held at Pune from 29th January to 1st February 2009.
The Pre-Congress workshops on Hysteroscopy, Laparoscopy & Andrology/ IUI Hands-on Training were held on 29th January 2009 while the Embryology workshop, ISAR-IFFS workshop and the Ultrasound workshop were held on 30th January 2009 at various venues simultaneously.
The Main Congress was held on 31st January and 1st February at Le Meridian, Pune.
As is the case every year, this year too the Congress witness the participation of stalwarts in the field of infertility and was attended in huge numbers by the Infertility specialists, Gynecologists and Embryologists from all over India.
The ISAR 2009 guided by Dr Sanjay Gupte, Organizing Chairperson and Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar, Organizing Secretary, boasted a team of expertise having a vast experience in the field of infertility. The esteemed International Faculty viz: Prof. Togas Tulandi (Canada), Prof. Gab Covacs (Australia), Dr Daniel Franken (South Africa), Prof. Ian Cooke (UK), Dr Enver Dirican (Turkey), Prof. Anne Loft (Denmark), Dr Regina Klose (Germany), Dr Pun Ting Chun (Hong Kong), Dr Ashok Agarwal (USA) and Dr Suresh Kattera (Singapore), along with around 100 esteemed National Faculty contributed towards making the ISAR 2009 a hugely successful Congress in terms of scientific deliberations and exchange of knowledge.
The grand 3rd International conference on Ovulation Induction – IOI 2008 scheduled on 30th & 31st May 2008 at Le Meridian was followed by International conference on Endoscopy- ICE 2008, on 1st June 2008 at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune.
Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar who has conceptualized this mega-event was the Conference Director.
IOI 2008 was exclusive. It was a theme conference on ‘Ovulation Induction’ as against the previous conferences, which have highlighted on an ‘Overview of Infertility’ as a whole.
International Faculty Prof. Togas Tulandi from Canada and Dr Filippo Ubaldi from Rome and many eminent National Faculty graced the events.
This occasion witnessed the beginning of 3 more super-specialties: Department of Urogynecology, Department of Preventive Gynecological Oncology & Department of Fetal Medicine at Ruby Hall Clinic.
This occasion also witnessed the release of 2 books:
1. ENDOSCOPY SIMPLIFIED: PRACTICAL TIPS BY EXPERTS” edited by Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar and her team. This book is complied in order to spread awareness about Endoscopy & to decrease complications that may arise during the learning curve. It covers important surgeries related to laparoscopy and hysteroscopy in gynecology. All the practical tips to enhance the surgical performance have been given in an absolutely simplified way with photographs.
2. By FOGSI FOCUS (Federation of Obstetrics & Gynecology Society of India) on “Understanding Fibroids today” edited by Dr. Prakash Trivedi our Senior Vice President of FOGSI and winner of Health Minister’s award for his breakthrough research on Fibroids & Infertility.
The monumental ‘ANKUR’ project of Dr Suchitra Pandit, 2nd Vice President, FOGSI was also inaugurated during this event. This is an ambitious FOGSI project that aims at training doctors for antenatal care.
The conference was a heady blend of cultural, spiritual & academic activities that proved to be a feast for all.
The highly interactive round table conference provided a chance for the delegates to discuss their problem areas personally on one-to-one basis with the eminent Faculty.
On 1st June, ICE 2008 had been organized. The specialty of the ICE 2008 conference was that the ‘live’ gynaecological endoscopic surgeries were relayed simultaneously from 4 operation theatres from Ruby Hall Clinic.
Dr Tandulwadkar said, “Key hole surgeries replace the traditional open surgeries and have been the hallmark of the changing era”. The operation theatres had been dedicated for Hysteroscopy, Laparoscopy, Hysterectomies and Urogynecology. Each OT showcased surgeries ranging from basics to the most complicated ones”.
The conference had an overwhelming response of over 400 Gynecologists from all corners of India.
The mesmerizing Bharatnatyam performance by Ruby Hall doctors Dr Poonam Jagiassi and Dr Pooja Lodha were the highlight of the Inauguration ceremony.
The International Conference on Infertility – ICI 2006 organized by Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar was held on 4th & 5th March 2006 at Le Meridian, Pune.
Pre-Congress courses viz. Endosuturing, Ovulation Induction, Male Infertility & IUI hands-on workshops were arranged on 3rd March 2006 at Ruby Hall Clinic.
The conference witness the participation of many world authorities like Prof. Herman Tournaye (Belgium), Prof. David Mortimer (Canada), Dr. Anders Andersen (Denmark), Dr. Ann Tabor (Denmark), Dr. Dror Meirow (Israel) and Ms. Rosemarie Cullinan (Australia), along with 40 National Faculty and was attended by over 600 gynecologists from all over India as well as Asia.
The special feature of the conference was the ‘Live’ ART procedures relayed from the Ruby Hall IVF & Endoscopy center.
The conference aimed to bring deep insights into a fast moving and exploding science of Reproductive Biology wherein all aspects useful to Gynecologists in general and ART specialists in particular were covered.

An International conference ‘Simplified Infertility Management update- SIM 2003’ was organized to mark the inauguration of Ruby Hall Clinic’s IVF & Endoscopy Center. The center is based on the guidelines of Sydney IVF center, Australia and Ms Rosemarie Cullinan (Senior Embryologist, Sydney IVF, Australia) graced the conference.
The conference was a platform for interacting with many eminent speakers from all over India as well as abroad. Over 300 delegates from all corners of India participated in the conference. Since its inception, Ruby Hall Clinic’s IVF & Endoscopy Center has bagged many a firsts achievements and the success rates are soaring high due to the best of the equipments from all over the world as well as the persistent and dedicated efforts of the entire team.
